Parashurama Temple, Chiplun
ಆದಿ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಭೇಟಿ
- The Parashurama Temple is situated on the slopes of the Western Ghats overlooking the Konkan region and is surrounded by forested hills. The temple complex includes the main shrine of Lord Parashurama, along with other shrines including Lord Hanuman, traditionally believed to have been installed by Samartha Ramadas.
- Local tradition holds that Adi Shankaracharya stayed in this region for a day. In remembrance of the association of this land with Lord Rama, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have performed Anjaneya Sānnidhya and Anusandhāna, invoking the presence of Lord Hanuman. This is not the same as the present Hanuman idol in the temple complex, which is associated with later traditions.
- It is also believed that the local residents once worshipped a pair of Padukas in the temple, regarding them as the Padukas of Adi Shankaracharya. Today it is worshipped as Sadguru Paduka.
