Mahalakshmi Mandir - Waigaon
ಆದಿ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಭೇಟಿ
- The Mahalakshmi Mandir at Waigaon functions as the śakti aspect within a larger sacred cluster. Unlike large temple complexes, this shrine reflects a grāma-devatā tradition, where the kṣetra has been preserved through living devotion rather than royal or institutional patronage.
- During the search for inscriptions and ancient icons, a significant vigraha was identified bearing distinct linear markings at its base, suggestive of antiquity. This vigraha is believed to have been worshipped by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya, and upon close observation, one can discern a subtle form within the liṅga—symbolically representing the union of Śiva and Śakti (Śiva–Śaktya aikya). The deity is regarded as a Swayambhū Vigraha, embodying inherent spiritual presence.
- The site is also characterised by numerous interconnected caves, further reinforcing its identity as a Tapasya sthala, and traditions indicate that a Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga installation exists here and continues to be worshipped, adding to the kṣetra’s layered spiritual significance.
