Dattatreya Samsthan Shikhar - Mahurgad

आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन

  • Dattatreya Samsthan Shikhar at Mahurgad is revered as one of the most sacred sites associated with Sri Dattatreya, situated atop the Mahur hills and attracting devotees and seekers throughout the year.
  • The Mutt authorities strongly believe that this Mutt was established by Adi Shankaracharya. A Biduru (bamboo) bush, green in color, can still be seen growing here, and it is regarded with deep reverence. The tradition holds that Sri Dattatreya himself offered a Daṇḍa (monastic staff) to Adi Shankaracharya, and after it was used, it was returned and placed at this very spot in the Ashram—where the Biduru bush now continues to grow.
  • Many Padukas can be found within the Ashram, but the Shastras identify a specific pair as belonging to Adi Shankaracharya. Shastras also indicates that Adi Shankaracharya established a haśālā (traditional center of learning) here, which over a period of nearly two centuries gradually evolved into the Mutt that exists today.
