आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन
- In the sacred environs of Prabhāsa Kṣetra, near the revered Somnāth, stands a quiet and ancient shrine of Bhadrakālī, held by local tradition to be svayambhū—self-manifested, radiating an unassuming yet profound spiritual presence.
- This kṣetra bears subtle signs of antiquity, including a śilāsana (stone seat) found outside the shrine, suggestive of a place sanctified by tapas and upāsanā.
- Oral traditions of the region revere the visit of Adi Shankaracharya, who is believed to have sanctified this space during his travels across Bhārata. It is said that he consecrated and worshipped several vigrahas here, later entrusting them to the local custodians. Among them, the most revered was the vigraha of Mahishāsura Mardinī, worshipped in its original form by the Āchārya himself. Over time, as local devotional practices evolved, the present form of Bhadrakālī came to be worshipped.
- Tradition further recalls that a golden Śrī Chakra worshipped by Adi Shankaracharya, once adorned this sacred space—though it is no longer to be found today, its spiritual imprint is believed to endure.
- The hereditary priests of this shrine trace their lineage to Śārthas—a community historically associated with temple service and ritual practice, often linked with specific regional traditions. It is believed that over time, certain deviations in practice arose, and it was during such a period that Ādi Śaṅkarācārya visited, restoring the sanctity of worship in alignment with śāstric injunctions.
