Ghumli Temple Complex and Raghunath Mandir Banawad

Adi Shankaracharya's Visit

Ghumli Temple Complex

  • Located in the historic region of Ghumli, this ancient temple complex stands as a silent testament to a once-thriving sacred center. The site is currently under renovation, and many of the vigrahas have been respectfully placed outside, including prominent forms such as Varāha and Gaapati.
  • Among these, a striking Anjaneya murti in red stone holds special significance. Local spiritual indications and experience suggest a living connection from this murti—subtly guiding the yatra further onward toward another स्थल. This Anjaneya is not merely an isolated presence but appears to serve as a link in a larger sacred continuity, pointing toward the nearby Raghunatha kṣetra.

Raghunath Mandir Banawad

  • Situated in Banawad, the Raghunath Mandir is a vibrant and living temple where the current worship tradition continues with devotion and continuity. The temple houses a revered Anjaneya murti, from where a subtle yet sacred connection extends toward the ancient kṣetra of Ghumli.
  • Within the sanctum, the principal vigraha—though appearing in the form of Mahā Viṣṇu—is, in essence and traditional understanding, revered as Chaturbhuja Rāma. This insight, affirmed through temple prasāda and local paramparā, reveals a deeper theological unity where Rāma is worshipped in a four-armed (Viṣṇu) form, expressing the non-difference between Rāma and Mahā Viṣṇu.
  • Worship is offered to all the deities in the temple, including Anjaneya, making the kṣetra a complete center of devotion. The spiritual flow between Banawad and Ghumli is thus experienced as a continuum of grace, with Anjaneya serving as a guiding presence across both sacred spaces.

The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
