Saptashrungi - Sahyadri Ranges
ಆದಿ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಭೇಟಿ
- Sapthashrungi, nestled amidst the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra, is one of the revered Śakti Centers where the Divine Mother is worshipped in her fierce yet compassionate form. Perched on the Mātr̥ Parvata, this sacred स्थल carries the living presence of Jaganmātā, who is believed to have resided here, sanctifying the पर्वत itself as a seat of शक्ति.
- The presiding deity is the majestic 18-armed Mahishāsuramardinī, a Svarūpa that powerfully expresses the Sampūrṇa śakti of the Divine Mother. Each of the eighteen hands bears distinct āyudhas—bestowed by various devatās—symbolizing that all cosmic forces converge in Her for the protection of dharma. The vigraha is Swayambhū-pratīti, deeply embedded into the rock face of the mountain, giving the अनुभव that the Devī herself has emerged from the very body of the parvata.
- Tradition, holds that the revered Markandeya Purana was recited here by Markandeya Maharṣi, further elevating the kṣetra as a seat of śāstra and divine revelation. The temple thus stands not only as a स्थल of worship, but as a confluence of śakti and jñāna.
- It is also believed that Adi Shankaracharya visited this sacred kṣetra, invoking and experiencing Paripūrṇa Sānnidhya of the Divine Mother.
