- The Hinglaj Mata Mandir at Lodurva is among the most sacred and least documented Devi shrines in the entire Thar Desert corridor. The antiquity of this shrine reaches beyond the Bhati capital: it belongs to the pre-Bhati sacred layer of Lodhruvapura, the sacred geography that the Bhati Rajputs built their royal city upon, not the one they created.
- It was to this shrine that Adi Shankaracharya came during his Digvijaya and the evidence of that visit endures in three forms that no other site in the Jaisalmer cluster possesses simultaneously: the Paaduka — the sacred footprint of the Acharya, installed at the site as the permanent mark of his presence; the consecrated Vigraha, established here by the Acharya's own anugraha, his grace-conferring act that transforms a sacred image into a living divine presence; and the Bheejaksharas — the seed-syllables of the Bhadrakali Mantra, written out by the Acharya's and offered to this temple for the continuity of its worship, encoding in Sanskrit syllables the Shakta theological synthesis that Shankaracharya carried through the entire Digvijaya.
- A site that holds all three — Paaduka, anugraha vigraha, and Bheejaksharas — is not merely a temple that a great teacher visited. It is a temple that a great teacher chose to permanently consecrate, to leave his presence within, and to equip with the sacred technology of his own tradition.
The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
