- Suryanarayan Temple – Patan (on the banks of Pushpavati)
The sacred Suryanarayan Temple, situated on the serene banks of the Pushpavati River, is a revered kṣetra dedicated to Surya Nārāyaṇa, worshipped as the visible manifestation of the Divine. The temple is traditionally aligned to receive the early morning rays of the sun upon the deity, symbolizing the awakening of consciousness and the infusion of prāṇa. The स्थापत्य and orientation of the shrine reflect a deep understanding of cosmic harmony, where light itself becomes a medium of worship. - Rama Kunda – Sacred Purificatory Tradition
Within the temple complex lies the sacred Rama Kunda, a tīrtha of both physical and subtle purification. Devotees customarily take a ritual bath here before entering the temple, signifying the shedding of impurities and the preparation of the mind for darśana and inward contemplation. - Temple Complex – Sacred Geometry of Four Directions
The complex houses numerous smaller shrines, with four principal temples positioned in the four cardinal directions. This layout represents the all-pervading nature of the Divine, inviting the seeker to recognize the presence of Surya Nārāyaṇa as encompassing all दिशाएँ and all aspects of existence. - Living Tradition of Worship
The practice of स्नान in Rama Kunda followed by darśana across the temple complex continues as a living tradition, preserving an ancient rhythm of devotion. The kṣetra remains vibrant with daily worship, reflecting continuity of faith and the seamless blending of ritual, discipline, and inner refinement. - Connection to Adi Shankaracharya
Local tradition holds that Adi Shankaracharya visited this sacred site during his digvijaya, offering worship and further sanctifying the kṣetra with the presence of Advaita jñāna.
