आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन
- Nestled within the campus of a college (Aditya Dhama) in Purnia, the Suryanarayan Mandir preserves a sacred tradition that extends beyond the present-day temple. Local traditions maintain that the site was originally home to an ancient Surya Kshetra, around which the educational institution was established in later years. While the existing temple is of recent construction, the sanctity of the Kshetra is believed to have been carefully preserved, allowing the ancient lineage of Surya worship to continue uninterrupted.
- The principal shrine enshrines a newly consecrated Sri Suryanarayan Vigraha, while preserving an ancient and deeply revered Paduka that occupies a place of honour within the sanctum. The continued worship of this Paduka reflects the community's commitment to safeguarding the spiritual continuity of the original shrine. Local traditions and traditional Shastric accounts regard the Paduka as the most sacred relic of the Kshetra, carrying forward the blessings and sanctity of the earlier temple.
- According to Shastras, the Paduka was blessed by Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya during his travels through this region. It continues to receive daily worship alongside Bhagavan Suryanarayana. The preservation of the Paduka, even as the temple itself has been renewed, stands as a testimony to the enduring reverence and to the continuity of Sanatana Dharma across generations.
- Today, Aditya Dhama represents a unique confluence of Vidya and Dharma. The presence of an active temple within an academic institution reflects the ancient Bharatiya ideal that the pursuit of knowledge is illumined by the grace of Surya—the eternal source of light, wisdom and consciousness. The Suryanarayan Mandir continues to inspire devotees, students and seekers alike, preserving an ancient spiritual legacy while nurturing future generations under the auspicious blessings of Bhagavan Suryanarayana and the Anugraha of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya.
The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
