Bhavani and Sri Rama Temple - Ramagiri
आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन
- The Bhavani Temple at Ramagiri is a small but revered shrine dedicated to Bhavani within the sacred landscape of Ramagiri. At Bhavani Temple (Ramagiri), local recitations and Shatras hold that Adi Shankaracharya visited the shrine on Phalguna Bahula Dashami. Adi Shankaracharya installed a Shiva linga and re-energized Bhavani Devi. Through this invocation, the Acharya is believed to have re-energised the Kshetra, awakening and stabilising the protective Shakti of Bhavani for the sacred landscape of Ramagiri.
- Local traditions and Shastras further recount that Adi Shankaracharya moved from the Bhavani temple to Ramagiri Hill, where he stayed for a longer period. Adi Shankaracharya is said to have resided here for the entire period of Chaitra Masa (approximately one and a half months), living in the caves on the hill and engaging in extensive philosophical debates with scholars of various schools.
- During this period, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to -
- Have composed the Rama Kavacha
- Performed the pratishta of Narasimha and
- Re-energized Sri Rama shrine (which originally was consecrated by Maharishi Agastya).
- Adi Shankaracharya is further said to have consecrated an Ishwara shrine to the right side of Sri Rama, teaching the principle of the essential unity of Hari and Hara, and instructing the hill-dwelling communities in spiritual practices.
- Local recitations state that through these teachings and debates, thousands of people in the region accepted the philosophy of Advaita.
- On the way to Narasimha Temple, one will encounter a small Amba Temple. The Temple contains an image of Amba/Devi and a vigraha of Adi Shankaracharya.
