आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन

  • Ramakrishna Ashram in Srinagar occupies a distinctive place in the religious and cultural landscape of Kashmir. Established by the Ramakrishna Mission in the twentieth century, the Ashram became an important centre for spiritual study, service activities, and cultural engagement in the Valley. Set amidst the natural beauty of Srinagar, it reflects the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, and the Ramakrishna Order while serving as a bridge between Kashmir's ancient spiritual heritage and modern institutional life.
  • Of particular interest within the Ashram premises is an ancient Īśvara Liṅga that predates the establishment of the present Ashram. Local traditions regard the Liṅga as a surviving remnant of an earlier sacred landscape that once existed in this part of Srinagar. Unlike the later structures surrounding it, the Liṅga is revered as an older presence, preserving a tangible link to Kashmir's long history of Shiva worship.
  • Local recitations further preserve the memory of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya's visit to this sacred kṣetra. Tradition holds that during his travels through Kashmir, the Acharya worshipped the ancient Īśvara Liṅga enshrined here, offering his reverence at this venerable seat of Shiva. The continued presence of the Liṅga within the Ashram grounds thus serves as a living reminder of both Kashmir's ancient spiritual heritage and its enduring association with Acharya Bhagavatpada.

The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
