From the Sampoorna Bharata Yatra of Sri Sri Shankara Bharati Mahaswamiji

Information uncovered during the Shaankara Jyoti Prakasha initiative to document Adi Shankara's continuing civilizational legacy.

आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन

  • Shri Ghat Ke Balaji is one of the most ancient and renowned Hanuman temples in Jaipur, situated near the sacred Galta Tirtha in the Aravalli hills — the name arising from the many lakes and water ghats that once graced this location, in whose midst Bajrang Bali manifested and came to be venerated as the presiding deity of the sacred waters.
  • The presiding vigraha is Svayambhu. Ghat Ke Balaji is held to be the Ishta Devata and Kula Devata of Jaipur Nagar and the seven surrounding communities — a living Devata whose sacred jurisdiction extends across the entire sacred geography of the Jaipur region.
  • Oral traditions associated with Galta Ji Temple speak of a massive spiritual Sabha conducted by Adi Shankaracharya during his second journey through the region on Jyeṣṭha Śuddha Tṛtīyā. It is said that during the gathering, Adi Shankaracharya asked the assembled devotees whether they wished to have darśana of Anjaneya. When the people responded in affirmation, tradition holds that he immediately manifested and established the Anjaneya vigraha there itself — an episode remembered locally as a profound expression of divine līlā and spiritual śakti. The event continues to be revered as a moment where devotion, Guru-saṅkalpa, and divine manifestation converged before the assembled masses.

The above findings are based on local recitations and living traditions, as well as inscriptions and markers observed at the site, supported by available historical references, certain scientific observations, and guidance from the Shastras. As our understanding continues to evolve, we will update this account from time to time as additional insights and information emerge from local communities and further study.
