आदि शंकराचार्य का यहाँ आगमन

  • Nestled atop a hillock on the northern bank of the sacred Brahmaputra near Guwahati, Dīrghēśvarī Devī Temple is one of the revered Śākta kṣetras of Assam. Dedicated to Goddess Dīrghēśvarī, an embodiment of the Divine Mother, the temple has for centuries been a centre of devotion, prayer, and spiritual refuge for seekers across the region. The elevated setting of the shrine, overlooking the mighty Brahmaputra and surrounded by the natural beauty of Assam, creates an atmosphere of profound sanctity and contemplation. The temple is also known for its ancient rock formations and sacred traditions that connect it deeply to the spiritual heritage of Kāmarūpa.
  • Local tradition associates this sacred region with the journey of Bhagavatpāda Ādi Śaṅkarācārya through the land of Kāmarūpa. As he travelled across Assam revitalizing the Vaidika Mārga and sanctifying numerous kṣetras, places such as Dīrghēśvarī became part of the sacred landscape that bears the memory of his presence and spiritual influence.
  • Even today, devotees ascend the hill to seek the blessings of the Divine Mother, experiencing a living tradition where Śakti worship, reverence for the Brahmaputra, and the enduring values of Sanātana Dharma continue to flourish in harmony.
